A Visit to the Greenbelt

I went for a walk in the Greenbelt area with my friend Kristina. Initially the day promised sunshine and clear skies, but by the time we arrived it had turned cold and windy. Tons of people, Valentine’s Day couples mostly, were moving along the trail with their dogs. Beautiful spot, just wished it were warmer.

Near the falls someone’s canoe had tipped over and they were slowly making their way back to shore. A Labrador made a brave attempt to rescue the paddle that got whisked away downstream, but returned to shore wet and paddle-less. These waters are cold in the summer. I shivered just watching this guy wading through the chest-deep water.

Afterwards we sought out the warmth of a sushi restaurant. Hot miso soup was just the thing.

Sick Day

Yesterday I thought I was just tired from lack of sleep and travel, but I was up at random times coughing up foam. Today I felt wretched. Called in sick, went back to bed, had some proper rest and food. It was one of those days where I wished there was someone else around that could go to the store and get food or say soothing things to me. Sigh.

Disney Quest

Last night after Dave and I had recovered from our space shuttle adventure, we went back over to Downtown Disney where we checked out the magic store and the LEGO store and had lunch at Planet Hollywood. Later that night we popped into Disney Quest, the five story virtual reality and arcade complex. Continue reading →

Last Chance to See

We woke up at around 2PM on Sunday. After some discussion it was decided that we were going to make another attempt to see the shuttle launch. Neither of us was up for another 11 hour ordeal on the tour bus, not to mention the $110 it would cost for new tickets. Continue reading →

Now it’s Time to Leave the Capsule if You Dare

About a month or so ago, I got a call from Dave.

“What are you doing the first weekend in February?” he asked.

“Nothing that I know of,” I said, though I guessed that was about to change.

“Want to go see the Space Shuttle launch?” Continue reading →

Do Not Feed Alligators

Spent all day travelling. Ended up in Orlando. Tired.

JoCo

As is the tradition for this time of year, I went to see Paul and Storm and Jonathan Coulton at Antone’s. Jonathan Coulton has become even more Jonathan Coultonier than last time.

I must get to bed. I have a plane to catch in the morning.

Nothing to See Here

Dorkness set on overdrive today. Got up and watched some shows then played some games. Didn’t feel up to socializing or getting anything productive done. Felt incapable of writing anything good. Sometimes one must retreat to their cave.

The House always wins

Tonight I brought House of Whack to Boards ‘n Brews. It was good to see it on the table again. I hadn’t taught the game to new players in ages, but this was the smoothest explanation so far. There were four players, a really good size group for newcomers. We played the straight up “Inside the Box” version with nothing fancy. The Throne of Swift and Whimsical Judgment came into play and there was a pretty amusing trial as a result. Dan had a legitimate beef with Jeff, namely being forced to stand while playing and walk around in a circle. The jury was split and it came down to a roll off, which Jeff won. That’s how it goes down sometimes.

Jeff pulled ahead of everyone on the score track and took home a copy of the game. Good times!

Summer Fun Cthulhu

Using a tripod and remote control overcomes my camera’s limitations and vastly improves the photo quality. I can use more appropriate exposure settings in low light situations without the usual grain or blur.
